Program Management
- Establishing a solid foundation is the key to long-term program management success. Primary focus areas include development of a Program Management Plan (PMP), a Construction Management Plan (CMP), implementation of a Program Management Information System (PMIS) and staffing the key positions with experienced professionals that are not only subject matter experts, but also fit a culture of participation and collaboration. High functioning program teams are built on the foundation described above and must include the Program Management Office (PMO), the Construction Management Team(s), the vendor community, and the various key client stakeholders.
Project Management
- Experienced project managers understand that planning is the key to success. Understanding why a project was selected and funded, who the key stakeholders are in its success, and what resources are necessary to meet the project’s objectives enable the establishment of clear baseline expectations that can be broadly communicated and aggressively managed to.
Construction Management
- Lessons learned increasingly show the importance of construction management (CM) professional involvement as early as possible in the development and design of projects. This early coordination with the individuals who will be responsible project’s success is directly related to project success. Staffing CM positions with professionals experienced in the delivery methods employed by the client is also a major success factor. Low bid and best value procurements each require different skillsets and experience leads to success. To ensure an ongoing pipeline of talented staff, mentoring and development of a diverse group of Project Engineers and early career CMs is a key focus area at Mission Meridian
Project Controls
- Financial control at both the project and program level is the backbone of integrity, progress reporting, and stakeholder alignment in any program. At Mission Meridian, we pride ourselves on our ability to build and develop teams of proven project controls professionals supported with the latest tools and templates (Work Breakdown Structures, PMIS workflows, project and program dashboards, etc.) for capturing and reporting data in a way that complies with all stakeholder and regulatory requirements.
Scheduling
- Strong fundamentals applied to the development, monitoring, and updating of project schedules is the foundation for project schedule control and accurate program schedule reporting. At Mission Meridian, we understand the importance of filling these roles with experienced schedulers who leverage the lead planning/design and construction professionals to ensure schedule data is correct. Leveraging the knowledge of those closest to the work improves accuracy and helps ensure the most efficient schedule is in place. Inefficiency here leads to unnecessary project delays and inevitable cost increases. Once again, hiring and development of the right staff and a collaborative approach are critical to success.
Document Control
- Ensuring that all project files, correspondence, etc. are captured and easily available for ongoing and future reference is necessary for the efficient operation of any program on a day-to-day basis. Archival of this same information is also a must to protect owners in the event of future disagreements with any program stakeholders. Developing a standard filing structure, using proven tools, training staff, and auditing conformance are key to managing this function and ensuring optimal access to project files as they are needed. Staffing this role with detail-oriented individuals who enjoy being part of a high performing has proven to be important to success. This is often a great role for early career professionals looking for exposure as they prepare for other career development opportunities.
